Communications review of the public sector – findings
You might be interested to know that recently Michael Player, Chair of the Communications Function Working Group, briefed our Board on the outcome of a recent Communications Function Review exercise completed for the State Services Commissioner by the Heads of Communications for the core public service.
The Review was a stocktake by senior practitioners of the Comms Function in Government agencies and has made a number of recommendations to assist further professionalisation of the function in the sector over the next few years.
The IABC Wellington Board were most interested in the findings and will use them to inform the development of future events.
Melcrum – Internal Communication Black Belt program
A premiere executive education program for communicators worldwide is being held for the first time in Wellington on 20, 21 and 22 October at the Pipitea Campus, Victoria University.
Described as a “must do” for any internal communication practitioner who is serious about having a voice at the leadership table, the course is run by Australians’ Adrian Cropley and Melissa Dark.
Discounted cost for only IABC and Melcrum members; $3750+GST; non-members $4150+GST.

2009 WriteMark Plain English Awards
Entries close 27 July 2009 for this year’s WriteMark Plain English Awards. If you’ve got a document or website that you think is an outstanding example of plain English — or of gobbledygook, this is your opportunity.
An independent panel of professional plain English experts and advocates judges the entries and decides the finalists and winners in each category.
The awards are hosted by the WriteMark Plain English Awards Trust.
Have your say…
It’s not very scientific, but our website poll asking: How has the current economic climate impacted on your communications planning? showed the following results:
43% Slight impact - continuing with projects but looking for savings within project budgets
26% No impact - continuing with all plans
26% Significant impact - projects shelved and no new activities planned
6% Proactive impact - budgets increasing to reflect the increased need for good communications in an uncertain environment
So, in the spirit of seeing what comms professionals think about topical issues, take one second to answer our new poll on the swine flu.
