"Now's good!"
Those were the words this time last year of IABC Victoria President Adrian Cropley. He was gently goading a group of Wellington communicators who were wishing for more professional development opportunities focussed on the exacting needs of senior staff in and around Wellington. The answer, we heard, was to use the gathered experience and knowledge of a global network of more than 15,000 communications professionals from over 70 countries -- the International Association of Business Communicators. Somehow, Kiwis have trouble resisting it when Aussies goad us!
We didn't know then that things were going to move so quickly. Chapter membership recently shot past the 70 mark -- phenomenal growth in just over one year!
The Wellington chapter's commitment to professional development continues in November with a not-to-be-missed professional development event bringing you right up to date with web-based social media:
- the latest thinking and strategies for involvement
- experts from America, Australia and New Zealand
- a hot media topic, on which senior communicators are bound to be called on for advice.
Come along, and take the opportunity to meet world chair of IABC, Todd Hattori.
Remember that IABC Wellington now has a new website, www.iabcwellington.co.nz, where you can find all the latest news and information on upcoming events.
With a year of growth under our belts, we're already planning our activities for 2008. Tomorrow's good!

Case Studies on Leadership In Communication
There are as many different recipes for leadership success as there are good leaders. The IABC "Leadership in Communication" series looks beyond executive sound bites for the qualities that set communication leaders apart. These are not "three secrets of success" case studies.
The series is designed for communicators who counsel and support the most senior people in their organisations—those looking to make the business case for communication. Case study 1: A straight-talking, regular kind of guy
