News and Events

29 July: Be Heard networking event - the social media release

(note change from the previously advertised date of 30 July)

Beat the mid-winter blues and catch up with your communications colleagues over a glass of wine or juice and nibbles.

This month Bronwyn Saunders from the Ministry of Social Development will kick off discussion with a briefing on the social media release. Bronwyn attended the recent IABC conference in San Francisco where social media guru Shel Holtz presented on this subject. His take on tailoring the traditional media release to social media formats was a highlight of the conference.

This event is FREE to members — $20 for non-members (you will be sent an invoice and can pay online or at the door).

On: Tuesday 28 July from 5.15pm
At: Powerhouse People’s Boardroom, 10 Brandon St, Wellington
Format: networking 5.15-5.45, facilitated discussion 5.45-6.30, network/wrap up 6.30-7

Please register NOW so we know who is coming.

Join IABC in July and avoid the US$40 application fee!

If you’ve been thinking about joining IABC or recently lapsed, there’s good news ahead.

July is our member month so that means IABC will waive the US$40 application fee for new and lapsed members.

See more information about joining on our website.

Accreditation — who’s interested?

Accreditation is IABC’s internationally recognised professional development programme. Communicators can use this to show they have high levels of skill and experience.

It’s designed for people with the knowledge and experience in designing a broad range of communication programmes. Candidates need at least five years experience in the profession and a degree, or a total of nine years experience and/or post-secondary education to qualify for accreditation.

We would like to support any members who want to gain their accreditation. We know of a couple of people in Wellington who are interested, and want to organise support and mentoring for candidates.

If you’re interested, have a look at the information on the IABC Wellington website and then contact Iain MacLean on 027 420 3056 or iain@macleanpr.co.nz.
